I applaud your article. I believe we should do all we can to help foster good health habits in our young children - including "Yoga Barbie"! The fact that Barbie's proportions are out of 'whack' is because she's a doll - a doll. Not a human. If people will remember June Cleaver, Bewitched, Jeannie and all the other 'girl role-models' of way back, they tried to have that shape too. Sadly, it has only gotten worse as the years progressed and so did the eating disorders and our obsession with being as thin as a piece of paper. Yoga is a beautiful way to nurish, strengthen and promote good health and excercise and we should do all we can to help our young people see the difference between good healthy/healthy habits and negative images and poor health habits.

I fail to understand why people get so upset about Barbie. I'm 58, grew up with her, and she never presented any kind of barrier to my feminism. Her much bewailed proportions are dictated by the need to nip in the waist of a fashion doll to accommodate the bulk of fabric when you try to construct outfits on such a small scale.
What's important about the dolls is not how they look, but the stories we encourage our girls to play out with them.
