Just Because I’m A Woman, It Doesn’t Mean I Have To Cook

woman.kitchen.cooking.featureI don’t know how to cook — there I’ve said it. Does that make me any less of a woman? If you asked my grandmother she would say it does. I can hear her now, “What man is going to marry you if you don’t know how to cook?” It’s not the 1900’s anymore grandma! Out here in the 21st century, a woman can be desirable without baking casseroles and whipping up fondues.

I know men think women can do it all; clean, take care of the kids, take care of them, work, do the shopping, the planning, and the cooking. What, do they think we have wings on our backs? Don’t get me wrong, it can be done. I know a few mothers who are living proof of just that. My mom was the epitome of a “super mom.” She made me breakfast, packed me lunch, dropped me off at school, went to work, picked me up from school, made dinner, cleaned the dishes and then started on the laundry. My goodness, I can’t even say all of that in one breath. Looking back, I have no idea how she did all of that! Women really can do everything, but should they have to?

Some men claim to only be capable of doing some things. I would be inclined to believe them if I wasn’t surrounded by powerful working ladies! Men work and women work! So, why should a woman be expected to do all of the cooking. Do we somehow have more hours in the day than men? I don’t think so. I don’t know about you, but once I get done with work for the day, I’m ready for Chinese takeout and my bed. I can’t even imagine mustering up the energy to make dinner, even if I knew how to cook.

Luckily, or rather, hopefully I won’t ever have to learn. According to an article in The Washington Post, more men are cooking nowadays! YAY! The article stated, “Today’s at-home chef’s…they’re more likely to be men. A higher proportion of American men —  43 percent — are cooking these days than at any point in the past 30 years.” How does that sound? Amazing! We’re busy and it’s about time guys stepped in and gave us a hand. So take that grandma, it looks like I might have a chance of getting married after all!
