It may not be October yet but Phoenix Fashion Week is not wasting any time, kicking off their first of many events with Shop Garment District, held on Friday in Tempe at the Moxy Hotel.

The event is the first chance for up-and-coming designers to showcase a capsule look on the runway before showing their complete collection in October.

Each designer also had the opportunity to sell their looks during the trunk show before and after the runway show.

Everything from the designers’ clothing to the jewelers who provided the accessories were available for purchase.

Even the models walking in the show had a big night. Their catwalk was one of the five challenges judged in this years’ Model of the Year Contest.

The top 40 models are competing for a year contract with The Agency Arizona in Scottsdale.

One reason why Shop Garment District is so favorable is because the event hosts new talent, giving them the opportunity to break into the world of fashion.

Whether it’s designers, stylists, photographers or models, Phoenix Fashion Week helps groom new talent in the industry.

This year 11 designers made the cut to compete in the Emerging Designer Bootcamp. They spend four months competing in challenges and learning all the sides of the fashion industry.

Competitors were from all over including Arizona, California, Washington D.C., and even South Africa.

Overall the evening was full of new fashion, fresh faces and people coming together to support Phoenix Fashion Week.

Phoenix Fashion Week starts October 13 through the 15.
