In 2001 Elle Woods dazzled upon movie screens with her doll-like style and her courageous journey for love, and now she is back again, but this time she sings!

Friday evening the Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) kicked off their 24th Anniversary Season with the opening of Legally Blonde The Musical, and not a single person left without a smile on their face and sore muscles in their tummies from laughter!

The plot-line throughout the musical remained true to that of the movie, where Elle Woods (Jessica Arnold) follows her ex-boyfriend, Warner (Brad Cashman), to Harvard Law School after he dumps her for not being “serious” enough for him to marry. After a few stumbles and mishaps in her first few months in law school Elle learns her way and eventually surprises all by becoming quite the lawyer. The VYT actors and actresses charmed the audience with their playful lines and youthful acting. Their passion truly shined brightly with their impeccable performance.

Jessica Arnold as Elle Woods

Jessica Arnold (Elle) came to life as the pink-adorned blonde and never missed a step throughout her performance. The young actress, still attending high school, was gracious for the chance to play such a large role in the musical.

“I was so excited because I had watched the show on Youtube.com and it is one of my favorite shows. This is a dream role to play,” Arnold said.

The audience was a sure indicator for the flawless performance, as they certainly showed their appreciation through laughter and clapping. One notable scene during the second act was when Kyle (Joshua Dunn), the attractive UPS guy, strutted across the stage, inducing shouts and whistles from the audience members!

Bobb Cooper, director, certainly outdid himself in this positive and light-hearted musical! It is a must-see for those who love great songs, a comedic story and a youthful cast full of passion – as this combination added up to a successful performance of Legally Blonde The Musical!

Legally Blonde The Musical can be enjoyed at the Herberger Theater Center in Downtown Phoenix. Tickets range from $16.50 to $34.50 and can be purchased here.
