Women, Your Roles are changing! Your career opportunities for the future are unlimited!
When we look back over the last few decades, we are reminded of the various stereotypes that girls and women were given in society. These include: women are meant to be damsels in distress, women are never in charge, women do not have technical skills, women do not need to go to college, women are supposed to be submissive and do as they’re told, and women are to look pretty, etc.
Thank goodness gender roles are now changing to better serve the socioeconomic level of a woman. When we compare the differences in the brain of a man verses a woman, we realize that female brains are stronger in the left hemisphere which includes language. No wonder we are so loquacious! Girls tend to do better in language ability, speech articulation and writing. However, with the proper skills and training, women can succeed in any male dominated profession.
Traditionally, female dominated fields included being a teacher, secretary, child care worker, hair dresser, receptionist, clerk, nurses, etc. However we no longer need to be confined to this small box of opportunities! More women today go to college than men according to Forbes.com. Forbes also reports that women earn three bachelor’s degrees for every two that men earn. Women are graduating in near equal numbers from law and medical programs compared to men.
Our future career opportunities are vast. We no longer have to choose between a career and a family. We can no longer be discriminated against in male dominated professions.
We are now able to hold jobs such as:
- Financial managers
- Meeting and event planners
- Education administrators
- Human resource managers
- Advertising and promotion managers
- Claim adjusters, appraisers, examiners and investigators
- Construction workers
- Medical scientists
- Sports media
- Medical and health service professionals
