You can smell it in the air, you can feel it every time the cool wind blows, it’s finally fall and people are giddy! The arrival of this glorious season in the Valley of the Sun comes with some exciting festivities as well. October is a month booming with events for all members of the valley, providing the utmost fun right through Halloween. Wondering what events to attend around Arizona this October? Well, you don’t have to look too far to find something that’ll capture the interest of you or your loved ones.
Popular Outdoor Events
Arizona State Fair
This fair is one of the most anticipated events that occurs around the state annually. From October 7th through October 30th, the fair will be open and running for business. There will be rides, games, fair food, exhibits, shows, concerts, and vendors of all sorts at the public’s disposal. Although getting a bit pricier every year, the fair has offered great discounts for the community to take advantage of. Head to their website for more details on the events and the prices for this year’s fair!
Arizona Taco Festival
I don’t know about you, but I am quite excited for the 7th annual Arizona Taco Festival. I mean, come on, who doesn’t like a good taco right? This event is held outdoors at the Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, and is a whirlwind of taco-fun! The event’s website gives a pretty explanatory description of what the festival is all about. “A General Admission ticket provides access to taco-topia. Inside the event, you’ll find about 50 restaurants dishing out $2 tacos and bars and beverage station serving margaritas, beer, water, and soda. The entire festival works on a token system – so you will purchase tokens worth $2 each and use those as cash.”
More For the Grown-Ups
Beer, beer, and more beer! Oktoberfest is the German beer-topia that many AZ residents have come to enjoy time and time again. Luckily for all the beer drinkers out there, Oktoberfest can be seen in multiple locations all over the valley. Funtober.com has a list of all the town and city Oktoberfest events occurring now through early November. Happy drinking friends, cheers!
Chile Pepper Festival
Arizonans just love their spice food, and this doesn’t ring truer than at the local Chile Pepper Festival. Not only is this Downtown Phoenix event one of the hottest festivals to attend in the valley, but it’s also one of the hottest festivals you’ll ever experience… in your mouth!
For Our Partiers
Haunted Hotel Ball
I attended the Haunted Hotel Ball with my best friend last Halloween, and had the absolute time of my life at the Saguaro Scottsdale hotel. It is a three day event, starting with an opening party the first day, a pool party the second, and then closing with a huge party palooza that blows the roof off the pace. Attendees’ costumes were fantastic, the music was addicting, and everyone had the time of their lives.
Nightmare on Princess Drive: Quarantined
The Saguaro Scottsdale isn’t the only hotel that holds a poppin’ Halloween bash every year. This year marks the 7th annual Nightmare on Princess Drive. As the hotel’s event page states, “Enter at your own risk! The zombie apocalypse is upon us, and The Plaza Bar has been invaded by the walking dead. Specialty cocktails, live DJ and the ever popular costume contest set the stage for a spooktacular night.”
Events for You and the Little Ones
On its own, the Phoenix Zoo is a blast for the whole family! For Halloween though, is becomes even more of a personalized party. Some of the animals go to bed, and then others come out to play. There are animal walks, dance events, vendors, crafts, costumes left and right, and shows for both parents and kids to enjoy. I used to go to the Halloween events at this zoo when I was a child, and they are still some of my favorite memories to this day!
SEA LIFE Arizona Spooktacular
Even the SEA LIFE Arizona aquarium inside of the Arizona Mills mall has a little extra fun in the month of October! Every Saturday and Sunday, from October 8th to the 31st, visitors are able to witness an underwater pumpkin carving show and participate in a costume contest. It’s an underwater, pumpkin-filled joy for families to see.
Haunted Houses and Sorts
This spooky corn maze is still one the freakiest places I have every visited in my life, but boy is it fun! Haunted hayrides, frightening corn mazes, and ghoulish characters invading your personal space with chainsaws is enough to make anyone run home crying. But with the right companions by your side, it can be an exhilarating adventure!
If an indoor haunted house is the thrill you are looking for, then head on over to the 13th Floor in Phoenix! This chain of haunted houses has been ranked as the best in America. Dodge zombies, monsters, clowns, possessed dolls, and more as you walk your way through an insane asylum of nightmares!
